SmackDown Results 06/05/15

SmackDown results from Houston, TX:

The opening segment featured Seth Rollins coming to the ring and bringing a steel chair in to sit in. He talked about how he turned against The Shield and how he doesn’t need The Authority to help him destroy Ambrose in their ladder match at MITB. Ambrose appeared on the Titantron telling Rollins that all the help he’s had from The Authority has made him weak, while Ambrose has just become stronger. He said he likes the idea of the ladder match because he’s never afraid to fall.

Prime Time Players defeated The Ascension and Lucha Dragons via pinfall in a triple threat match to determine new #1 contenders for the tag team titles. The finish saw Titus connect on a pump-handle slam on Viktor of The Ascension for the pinfall wn.

New Day was interviewed by Renee Young backstage about having to face PTP at the MITB PPV with the titles on the line. They called PTP corrupt and greedy because all they care about is money. Kane came in to interrupt and told Kofi he’ll face Neville on tonight’s show. He told New Day to “have a pleasant day.”

Ryback defeated Stardust via pinfall in a non-title match. At one point, Stardust went off the ropes but Ryback caught him and hit a spine buster. He followed with the Meathook Clothesline and then Shell Shock for the win.

Renee Young interviewed Paige on the top of the ramp. Paige talked about being sick of the Bella Twins and them using “Twin Magic.” She said some things never change, but if you want change sometimes you have to use your power to change things. She said she intends to do that so the Bella Twins will stop holding the Divas Division back.

Kevin Owens came out to trash talk John Cena, saying Cena thinks Owens hangs on his every word like his son, but he doesn’t. Owens said his son is seven and doesn’t know any better, but he doesn’t want him influenced by a guy spouting so much garbage like Cena does. He called Cena delusional for all the crap he says. Owens issued an open challenge to the locker room for his NXT title.

Kevin Owens defeated Zack Ryder via pinfall to retain the NXT Championship. Owens issued his Open Challenge for the NXT belt. Zack Ryder came out and was squashed by Owens in about a minute. Post-match, Owens attacked Ryder with a pop-up power bomb to send a message to Cena.

Neville defeated Kofi Kingston via pinfall. Big E and Xavier Woods joined Kofi at ringside. At one point, Neville landed an impressive moonsault on Big E and Kofi on the outside. Later, Kofi had roll up pinfall attempt, but Neville countered the pin and was able to twist his foot around Kofi’s arm, then sat down to hook the legs for a secure pinfall.

They had a MizTV segment where Miz’s special guest was Lana. He baited her into trying to say she ditched Rusev because he lost to Cena, so it was a business move. Lana said she genuinely cared about Rusev but he didn’t respect her so she had to leave him. Miz introduced his surprise guest, Rusev, who came to the ring on crutches. He begged Lana to give him another chance and to “be my crutch.” He put the crutches aside. Lana took the crutch and shoved it into him. Rusev became irate and started to yell at Lana, but out came Dolph Ziggler who led Lana out of the ring, further irritating Rusev.

Roman Reigns defeated Sheamus due to disqualification. The match lasted about 10 minutes. At one point, Sheamus had an Irish Curse backbreaker for two. He missed on the Brogue Kick and Reigns hit a Superman Punch. However, Kane was ringside and entered the match, delivering a big boot to level Reigns. That caused the ref to call the match. Kane went for a chokeslam on Reigns, but Reigns avoided it. Sheamus connected on a Brogue Kick on Reigns to put him down. Kane chokeslammed Sheamus, then looked up at the MITB briefcase hanging over the ring as SmackDown closed.
